Who knew that this adorable little spot existed? Apparently quite a few people, as both happy hour (when they serve their burger) and the period that follows are packed with folks who have good taste in both food and drink. The Wallflower came to Burger Weekly’s attention thanks to their Punch, Classics & The Burger happy hour. Served nightly from 5:30 – 7:00pm, the centerpiece of the happy hour (in my opinion) is the Bordelaise Burger.
Burger Ordered: The Bordelaise Burger
The Taste: The dry aged ground beef patty is topped with shallot confit, greens, and Saint-Andre cheese on a Parker House roll. It is served with bordelaise sauce and barbecue potato chips, which have a kick that is no joke. In a word, this meal is rich. From the high-octane chips to the remarkably aromatic and savory patty, every flavor sensor you have will be activated. For the first time in a while, I had a hard time finishing the entire burger, not because of flavor but because every subsequent bite was an exhaustive adventure in eating. In the end, the bordelaise sauce was used more for eating my chips than my burger, as I was at risk of sensory overload.
The Verdict: Fans of heavy-duty dry aged burgers and the like will love this one. Consider it your dirty little West Village burger secret.
The Wallflower is located at 235 West 12th. Street in Manhattan, New York.
