Not long ago, Blue Ribbon finally did like every other successful restaurant and opened an Upper West Side location. They dropped the “Blue” because if the Fast and Furious franchise has taught us anything, augmenting your name is a great way to reinvigorate a sputtering series. That isn’t to say that Blue Ribbon has been sputtering, but a host of new restaurants have certainly garnered more attention in recent years.
But who cares about all that, we just want to know if their burger tastes good. I wasn’t a huge fan of my first Blue Ribbon burger experience a few years ago, but I’m all about second chances.
Burger Ordered: The Beef Burger
The Taste: I like to think that presentation isn’t very important when it comes to a burger, since a burger should be accessible to even the lowest common denominator. But I was a little worried when this burger came out and looked flat, for lack of a better word. Fortunately, it tasted leagues better than it looked. The sweet onion relish and sour pickles paired perfectly with the savory patty. The toasted bun was a delight too, but the biggest standout were the shoestring fries. They were crispy, plentiful, and left me feeling warm and fuzzy.
The Verdict: Don’t judge this burger book by its cover. Its beauty is on the inside, and it will be delicious inside your mouth.
The Ribbon is located at 20 West 72nd Street in Manhattan, New York.
