The Experience: Scovie’s does not jump right out as a burger haven, as its sign promises “Deli, Dinner, and Dessert,” and the décor looks much more like a deli than anything else. The façade is also tucked back a bit, so I likely wouldn’t have even noticed this place much if it wasn’t for the recommendation of my parents. Next to creating me, recommending Scovie’s is probably the best thing my parents have ever done for me.
Burger Ordered: Skinner
The Taste: All the burgers at Scovie’s are ½ pound, 100% fresh Black Angus Beef and served on a pretzel bun with lettuce and tomato. The Skinner is adorned with house made BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, and bacon, which is pretty much my favorite burger variation. I don’t know exactly how the beef is seasoned, or how the BBQ sauce is made, but my goodness this is a perfect burger. They cooked it medium rare at my request, and all of the accoutrement mixed into what can best be described as heaven in my mouth.
The Verdict: This burger is amazing and my two companions felt the same way about their choices. I’m lucky it’s in the next town over because if it was any closer to me they’d be seeing a lot more of me and my diet would be in trouble. Until further notice, this is the best burger in the five-county area.
