Some places just feel like home. While I no longer reside in Traverse City, Don’s Drive In is the kind of place that will always give me that warm, fuzzy feeling. It was founded in 1958, and little has changed since then. In the summertime you can still park your car and get service without entering the building. Little touches like that separate Don’s from other area eateries.
Burger Ordered: ¼ lb. Burger
The Taste: I got this burger just the way I like it, with American cheese, ketchup, lettuce, and a smidge of mayo. Don’s cooks all of their burgers the same, as most quick-serve places do, and that’s not a negative here. The beef and ingredients are all fresh and delicious. Either curly fries or big fat steak fries accompany the burger, and you can’t lose either way. Don’s is also famous for their hand dipped milkshakes, all of which are amazing.
The Verdict: Don’s Drive In is a Traverse City institution, and with good reason. If you’ve never been, you owe it to yourself to check it out, and once you do you’ll probably want to go back.
Don’s Drive In is located at 2030 US 31 North in Traverse City, Michigan.
