Someone told me that Dominique Bistro is so named for Dominique Ansel, creator of the Cronut. To that person, if you’re reading this, no no NO. Dominique Bistro named after Executive Chef Dominick Pepe, who also oversees Olio é Piu and Boucherie. Now, I don’t think about burgers when I think about any of those restaurants, but I do think of delicious food. So let’s see what the burger at Dominique is like.Burger Ordered: Bistro Burger
The Taste: This 8 oz short rib blend is topped with caramelized onion, lettuce, tomato, and gruyere cheese. As you can see from the photo, the cheese really overwhelms the presentation of the burger. Unfortunately, it’s the caramelized onions that overwhelm its flavor. They are incredibly powerful, and the beef doesn’t have enough punch of its own to stand up to the intense wave of onion sweetness. The cheese was quite delicious though, when eaten in its own bite.
So the burger wasn’t a huge win here, but pretty much everything else was remarkable. It’s not surprising that the fries at a french restaurant would be tasty, and the steak tartare, NY strip steak, and rabbit ragout cavatelli were all delicious.
The Verdict: Skip the burger and get the other meat plates I mentioned. You’ll go home very satisfied.
Dominique Bistro is located at 14 Christopher Street in Manhattan, New York.
