The Experience: Double Windsor had been on my burger bucket list for a long time. When I began Burger Weekly in 2011, a coworker who lived in Park Slope called it out as a great place for a beer and a burger. It took me four years to finally make my way down there, but it was worth the wait.
The joint is cash only. You order your drinks at the bar and your food at a separate counter. I loved so much about this set up. I loved that the get-up-and-order process encouraged folks to socialize with strangers. I loved that the beer list was extensive and full of interesting brews that I’d never tried before. The only thing that I didn’t love was the ATM fee.
Burger Ordered: The Burger
The Taste: I knew before I even took my first bite that I was going to like this burger. One of my fries had fallen into the juice already forming a puddle around the burger, and as a dip it was delicious. The rest of the burger didn’t disappoint. Every bite of pickle, onion, cheese, bun (Amy’s Bread) and beef (Creekstone Farms) was glorious. For a couple of the final bites, I incorporated the aioli that came along with the fires, and I was taken to a new level of bar burger bliss. There was just so much penetrating burger flavor that every moment of the eating experience was spent nodding in approval.
The Verdict: The Double Windsor is an essential burger and beer joint. Those in the Park Slope/South Slope/Windsor Terrace area are lucky to have it.
