If you ask me, East One Coffee Roasters has a name problem. Yes, it is a coffee shop, they do serve coffee. In the front of the large space, it looks like a coffee shop. But in the back, it looks like a fun, Brooklyn restaurant and I worry that the very tasty food there won’t get the attention that it deserves. Anyway, whatever, you don’t care about that. You came here to read about a good burger, not to hear me give advice about a restaurant name. For the record, I don’t have any great ideas for a new name, except to just dump the words “coffee roasters.”
Burger Ordered: Cheeseburger
The Taste: EOCR’s burger is centered around a Fleishers ground beef patty. It’s topped with American cheese, special sauce, lettuce, onion, and pickle. You can have it topped with a fried egg and/or bacon, but I actually recommend that you don’t. The special sauce has a tangy flavor to it, which is really pleasant but probably wouldn’t pair particularly well with bacon. An egg might be alright, but the burger is pretty messy as-is and I don’t think a yolk is necessary for that reason. Most importantly, you just don’t need those things. This burger is delicious and bucks the current trend of very heavy, big flavors in favor of lighter, tangier flavors.
The Verdict: This very cute spot is serving a fun burger alongside some zippy rosemary fries. Head out to Carroll Gardens and give it a shot.
East One Coffee Roasters is located at 384 Court Street in Brooklyn, New York.
